Happy National Dog Day!

Aug 26 • 2 minute read

To be fair, in our world here at Rollin’ Vets, every single day is Dog Day. But did you know that August 26th is officially National Dog Day?

National Dog Day was founded by animal activist and author Colleen Paige, whose family adopted her first dog “Sheltie” from her local animal shelter when she was just 10 years old. The day celebrates all dogs of all breeds, and the mission is to help bring awareness to the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year. National Dog Day was even adopted by New York State Legislation in 2013!

How can you join in on the celebration of our favorite furry friends? Here are a few ideas!

1. Adopt a dog from your local shelter or rescue organization.

2. Donate blankets, food and toys to a local shelter.

3. Take your dog shopping for a new toy.

4. Assist an ill or elderly neighbor by walking their dog.

5. Volunteer your time at a local rescue or shelter.

6. Brush your dog to eliminate excess fur and dander.

7. Take your dog on a long walk somewhere new.

8. Write your local Congressman and ask that he/she support the ban of puppy mills.

9. Snap some silly selfies together.

10. Tell your dog how much you love him or her!
