Oh, the weather outside is frightful, for both you and your pet/s! Temperatures are dropping across Texas and we want to be sure that you are prioritizing your pet’s safety too. Here are a few winter safety tips to help keep your pet safe.
First and foremost, if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for your pet! Keep your animals inside. If left outdoors, pets can freeze, become disoriented, lost, stolen, injured or killed.
1. Frostbite can happen when blood rushes to the core of the body, leaving the skin and other extremities at risk.
2. Skin problems are an issue as cold weather can lead to dry, flaky, and itchy skin.
3. Hypothermia occurs when a pet's internal temperature drops to dangerous level (98 degrees Fahrenheit or lower).
4. Joint pain, spinal and leg weakness can be exacerbated by cooler weather in elderly pets with arthritis.
